Burna boy clarifies ‘African giant’ statement, promises interview

Burna Boy

Afro-pop sensation, Burna boy, has clarified his ‘African giant’ description of himself after receiving backlash from Nigerians on Twitter.

The 27-year-old singer earlier on Thursday called himself ‘an African giant’ in a post on Instagram in response to his name being written in small fonts on the list of artistes to perform at Coachella in April.

Nigerians on Twitter criticised the singer, calling him arrogant, and that his stellar run in 2018 had gotten to his head.

Burna boy subsequently deleted the controversial post.

In response to the attacks, Burna boy wrote on Instagram on Thursday: “I represent a whole Generation of SOLID AFRICAN creative going Global. Not the soft, Low self esteem Africans with the slave mentality.

“Nothing I say comes from any place of ‘pride’ or any sense of ‘entitlement’, it comes from my Vision of the future of AFRICA not just AFRICAN Music,” the Atlantic Record act concluded.

He also promised to give an interview soon to shed more light on his views.

Burna boy and Mr. Eazi are the only Nigerian representatives at this year’s edition of Coachella, arguably the biggest music festival in the world.

The festival recorded over $114 million in 2018.
