Buhari appoints former ThisDay journalist, Waziri Adio, NEITI executive secretary

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a new governing board for the Nigeria Extractive Transparency Initiative (NEITI), with former ThisDay journalist, Waziri Adio, as executive secretary.

A statement from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawan, said Adio was appointed alongside 23 others to serve as the National Stakeholders Working Group (NSCG), otherwise known as the Governing Board of NEITI.

Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi, is chairman of the board.

Adio was until his new appointment the publisher of Metropole magazine.

He held various editorial positions in ThisDay from 1995 to 2003 and was at one time Special Adviser, Research and Strategy in the office of the Senate President from August 2003 to October 2004.

In 2004, he was appointed Communication Specialist by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), a position he held until 2007 when he left to serve as the director of communications of NEITI from May 2007 to June 2008.

​ Adio is a 1992 Mass Communication graduate from the University of Lagos. He obtained MSc. Journalism degree from Columbia University, New York, United States of America in 1999.

He also holds a masters degree in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Massachusetts, USA in 2009.

​The statement said Adio’s appointment was with immediate effect.
