Breaking: Super Falcons clinch record ninth Nations Cup

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have clinched a historic ninth Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) title following a hard-fouth victory over South Africa.

Thomas Dennerby’s team defeated the Bayana Bayana 4-3 on penalties in Saturday’s final in Accra, Ghana.

The Nigerians recovered from an Asisat Oshoala missed spot-kick to make history.

Francisca Ordega was awarded the Lady of the Match award.

What this means is that the Falcons have picked up the last three trophies and ninth in total.

They’ve missed out on the top prize just twice – both going the way of Equatorial Guinea.

Cameroon defeated Mali in Friday’s third-place play-off to join the finalists at next year’s World Cup.
