Forty-nine new coronavirus COVID-19 cases have been reported in Nigeria, bringing total confirmed infection in the country to 542.

This was confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Saturday night.

Lagos has the highest number of infection with 306 cases so far recorded in the state.

The number of those successfully treated and discharged nationwide is 166, with 19 deaths recorded so far.

Chief of state to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, died of the disease on Friday night.

He was buried in Abuja on Saturday according to Islamic rites.

UPDATE: The NCDC has corrected the figures it announced on Saturday. In a message posted on Twitter on Sunday, the agency said Nigeria had 541 cases, instead of 542. It said the figure in Ekiti was three, not four as it erroneously announced.
