Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Tuesday morning blocked all the entrances into the National Assembly.
Lawmakers and staff of the National Assembly were prevented from entering the complex.
There are reports that Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan, and some other senators elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) met with the Director-General of the DSS, Lawal Daura, at about 1 am on Tuesday.
The agenda of the meeting was not immediately known, and no explanation was given for security takeover of the parliament.
