Herbert Wigwe

The group chief executive officer of Access Holdings Plc Herbert Wigwe has died in a helicopter crash in the United States.

Sources said the aircraft was headed to Las Vegas when it crashed near a border city between Nevada and California on Friday night.

The helicopter, a Eurocopter EC 130, was carrying six people onboard at the time of the incident.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said they were made aware of the downed aircraft shortly after 10 pm on Friday.

In a statement, they said, “We are not able to confirm how many people were on board or their names. No survivors have been located.”

Reports say others onboard the aircraft included Wigwe’s wife and son and the group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group) Abimbola Ogunbanjo.

This comes less than two months after the spokesman of Access Bank Abdul Imoyo died on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at First Cardiology, Ikoyi, Lagos, after a brief illness.
