Highlife musician Boye Best and gospel singer Goke Bajowa have reconciled after a copyright dispute over the song ‘Iwo Ko Lodami’.
Bajowa had accused Boye of using the song without permission for over five years. He also said it was used in promotional materials for Boye’s album launch and performed at events in a way that made it appear Boye owned the song.
Boye denied the allegation. He said the promotional video was done by a lounge manager without his permission. He also said he has never recorded the song in a studio or included it on any album, adding that he always credits Bajowa when performing it.
The two singers met at Boye’s album launch in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, where they hugged in public after Bajowa arrived at the event.
Speaking on stage, Bajowa described Boye in positive terms and said his opinion had changed after their recent interactions.
“This is my brother. Boye is a good person. I was told by many people that he is good, but I didn’t want to believe it. I think I will have to agree now with what I have seen in the last four days. God bless you. We will do a collaboration that people can stream and tidy up the paperwork,” he said.
Both singers later performed Iwo Ko Lodami together, drawing applause from the audience.
The album launch also had performances and appearances from several entertainers including 9ice, KS1 Malaika, Bolaji Mr Latin Amusan and Dele Omo Woli.
