Bournemouth stun Manchester United

Junior Stanislas

One week after winning at Chelsea in the biggest result in club history, Bournemouth stunned another Barclays Premier League giant on Saturday, this time beating Manchester United 2-1 in front of the Cherries’ home crowd at the Vitality Stadium.

With the win, Bournemouth move up to 14th on the table, one point ahead of Chelsea. Manchester United remain in fourth place.

Bournemouth got off to a dream start, with Junior Stanislas scoring within the opening two minutes. Direct from a corner kick, Stanislas sent a bending ball into the box, fooling David de Gea and sailing into the top corner at the back post.

United nearly equalised just minutes later, but Artur Boruc made a huge double-save to keep Bournemouth ahead. The Cherries’ keeper stood tall to stop a Marouane Fellaini volley, then dove to his left to get a hand on Paddy McNair‘s rebound attempt.

Anthony Martial should have drawn United level in the 18th minute, as Stanislas played an errant back-pass right to the striker.

Martial moved in alone on goal but dragged his shot yards wide in a wasted opportunity.

Stanislas remained heavily involved in the play, taking his own breakaway just after giving one away to United.

The winger could have made it 2-0 but couldn’t dribble around the outstretched de Gea who came up big for the Red Devils.

From de Gea’s save, United drove up the field and found an equaliser through Fellaini in the 24th minute.

Boruc made a great stop on a shot from Memphis Depay on the break, but Fellaini was there to pounce on the rebound and level things up at one.

Already shorthanded, United midfielder Jesse Lingard was forced off in the 31st minute with an injury, replaced by Andreas Pereira.

Bournemouth regained the lead in the 54th minute off a well-designed corner kick.

Matt Ritchie hit a low corner on the ground towards the penalty spot, as Joshua King peeled off the back post.

King was unmarked and fired a one-time shot home, as the former Manchester United youth player stunned his former club.
