The Delta State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has said a histology report circulating online and linked to Blessing Okoro, also known as Blessing CEO, belonged to a different patient.
The association said the document was altered from an original result issued to another individual diagnosed with breast cancer.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Israel Adaigho and secretary, Usamah Hannah, the NMA said the report in circulation was originally issued on May 9, 2025 by Xinus Medical Diagnostics in Asaba, Delta State, to a patient identified as Mbara Deborah.
“Xinus Medical Diagnostics is located in Asaba, Delta State and did not at any time issue any report to Blessing Okoro,” the statement read.
The association explained that the test was conducted following a referral from a private hospital in Asaba for a confirmatory breast cancer case.
“The test was done and the result issued to the referring doctor as a case of breast cancer on the 9th of May, 2025,” it said.
According to the NMA, the authentic report bearing the name of the actual patient was also made available online by a law firm.
“A copy of that result is the one being circulated online by the law firm, with the name Mbara Deborah as the patient,” the statement said. “The result online from the law firm is the original version issued to the patient through her hospital.”
The association said it issued the clarification because of how the altered report was being used, urging the public to be cautious.
“The integrity of our association and its members is very paramount and should not therefore be taken for granted.
“We call on the authorities responsible for maintaining law and order to do the needful and save the unsuspecting members of the public from being taken undue advantage of,” it added.
The controversy follows a video shared by Blessing CEO on March 25 in which she announced she had stage four breast cancer, shaved her head and appealed for financial support.
Reports indicate she raised about N13 million before doubts emerged over her claims.
The issue gained more attention after the alleged original owner of the report, Deborah, claimed the document had been edited and used without her consent.
During an Instagram Live session with media personality Daddy Freeze, Blessing CEO struggled to respond to questions about her diagnosis.
In a separate interview with influencer Egungun of Lagos, she denied having stage four cancer and described it as a possible misunderstanding.
“For what? Who did I hurt?” she said. “I think I’m not a doctor and maybe I just passed the message that a doctor gave to me.”
She also denied claims that she received N100 million in donations, insisting the amount was N13 million, and added that her oncologist had not confirmed the stage of the illness.
The development has led to calls for investigation, with some public figures urging authorities to take action and donors seeking refunds through legal means.
