He said his administration was much conscious of the welfare and security of corps members serving in the state, saying Kogi remained a ‘Safe Haven’ for them.

The governor, who was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Sani Ogu-Salisu, urged the corps members to obey and respect the law for a memorable and fascinating camp experience.

He congratulated the corps members on their academic success that had qualified them for mobilisation while felicitating with their parents and guardians who had laboured to ensure such success.

He stressed that the scheme had lived toward its expectations in Nation-building assignment and remained the most enduring youth organisation with the mandate of transforming the youths into leaders of integrity.

”In Kogi State, our youth corps members have regularly received good motivation to contribute to the state’s development in education, infrastructure, rural health and social mobilisation and sensitisation.

”I wish to commend the nationalistic spirit of the serving corps members who have contributed to the nation in the recent past.

”Recently, this nationalistic spirit was also displayed as the serving corps members enlisted for the Nov. 16 INEC duties for both Bayelsa and Kogi States.

”Therefore our Kogi is a Safe Haven for you all during your primary and Secondary assignment,” he said.

Earlier, Mr Olayiwola Lasaki, the State Coordinator of NYSC, said the orientation course would equip the corps members with practical, social and leadership skills required for the challenges of the service year.

Lasaki added that it would also inculcate discipline in corps members and make them imbibe good work ethics in preparation for their primary assignment.

”I am happy to inform this august gathering that these prospective corps members have proved to be highly disciplined, and have immediately commenced their training after Registration,” Lasaki said.
