Big Brother Naija reality star Mike Edwards has congratulated Ese Brume for breaking record at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Brume won gold in the women’s long jump event at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Applauding the record breaker for her victory, Mike who competed in the high jump category at the event, took to Instagram on Monday, hailing Ese as a “champion.”

“Our Champ”, Mike wrote in the comment section of Brume’s Instagram post.

Arguably Nigeria’s most consistent athlete in the last four years, Brume had a no jump on her first attempt on Sunday, August 7 but bounced back to take the lead in the final and set a new Games record.

Brume secured gold with a jump to spare after her opponents were unable to match her 6.99m, 6.81m, 6.99m, and 6.96m jumps.

On her last attempt, the Delta-born athlete jumped 7.00m to become the first woman to jump that far in the history of the Commonwealth Games.

The previous Games record for the women’s long jump was 6.97m set by Australia’s Bronwyn Thompson on home ground, Melbourne, in 2006.
