BBC fires broadcaster for tweeting ‘royal baby’ image of chimpanzee

BBC fires broadcaster for racist comment about royal baby

Broadcaster Danny Baker has said that he has been fired by BBC Radio 5 after a racist tweet about the new baby born to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The tweet now deleted, which went viral on social media, showed an image of a couple holding hands with a chimpanzee dressed in clothes with the caption: “Royal Baby leaves hospital”.

It is alleged that Mr Baker tried to mock Meghan’s racial history as an African American.

The royal couple had presented the baby to the world and announced his name as Archie Windsor on Wednesday.

Baker, 61, who presents a weekend show on 5Live, wrote on Thursday on Twitter to say that he had been fired.

“Just got fired from @bbc5live. For the record – it was red sauce. Always,” he said.

The BBC has not yet confirmed his tweet.
