AWCON 2018: Super Falcons thrash Zambia to keep hope alive

Nigeria’s Super Falcons got their Africa Women’s Cup of Nations campaign (AWCON) back on track with a resounding 4-0 victory over Zambia on Wednesday.

Thomas Dennerby’s ladies suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to South Africa in the opening round of fixtures.

The reigning champions needed a strong outing against the Shipolopolo at the Cape Coast Stadium to stand any chance of reaching the last four.

And they did so in an emphatic manner.

Despite missing a glut of goalscoring opportunities, the Falcons still managed to bury four – one in the first half and the rest in the second.

Desire Oparanozie, Francisca Ordega, Rasheedat Ajibade and Amarachi Okoronkwo got the goals for the Nigerians.

The result is a repeat of the last time both sides clashed in 2014.

Next up for the Falcons is a date with Equatorial Guinea who received a 5-1 bashing from Zambia.
