Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has again written her name in the history books by scoring the first goal in the history of American club Bay FC with a 1-0 win over Angel City in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) on Sunday.

The goal came in the 17th minute as Oshoala found the upper right corner of the net with her first touch.

“My career has always been about making history, and I am very happy to be a part of the history at this club,” Oshoala said of the goal.

Founded in 2023, Bay FC acquired Oshoala from Barcelona in 2024 for an undisclosed fee until 2026 with the option of a third year.

Oshoala won four league titles, the Champions League twice and eight domestic cups during five years in Spain, where she had five months to run on her contract with Barcelona.

She was the first African woman to win a Champions League title in 2021 – having already become the first African woman to score in a final in 2019.

The 29-year-old, who has been nominated for the Ballon d’Or twice, has been named African Women’s Footballer of the Year six times and is also the first Nigerian to score in three Women’s World Cups.
