Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala, marked her arrival at Arsenal Ladies with a goal to help the team overcome Women’s Super League One newcomers Reading 3-1 on Tuesday evening.

Oshoala, 21, who joined the Gunners for an undisclosed fee from Liverpool, wasted little time in announcing herself to about 4,000 fans at Meadow Park.

The forward who featured sparingly for the Reds due to injury, doubled Pedro Martínez’s side lead by rounding Reading goalkeeper Grace Moloney after the break.

Dominique Janssen had given the host the lead in the first half with a low shot from outside the box.

The reigning BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year came close to scoring a brace on her debut – but her effort narrowly hit the woodwork.

Jade Boho Sayo reduced the arrears before Danielle Carter headed Arsenal’s third.

Oshoala, who scored thrice in nine appearances for the Anfield Ladies, will be hoping for a better goal return with the Gunners.

Next up for Oshoala and her Gunners teammates who finished third last season, is a trip to Manchester City Ladies on Monday at the City Football Academy.

The former Rivers Angels star topped the list of 40 players invited by coach Florence Omagbemi for the Africa Women’s Nations Cup qualifier against the winner of either Senegal or Guinea in April.

She has found the back of the net 11 times in 17 appearances for Nigeria.
