Arsenal fans attack Iwobi after own goal against PSG

Arsenal fans have launched a staggering attack on Nigerian youngster, Alex Iwobi, after his own goal ensured Paris Saint-Germain returned to France with a point in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Stationed at the post for a 77th-minute corner, the 20-year-old failed to clear Lucas Moura’s header, deflecting the ball beyond a diving David Ospina and into the net.

The mistake handed PSG a 2-2 draw and top spot of the group, with the French champions needing only to win at home to Ludogorets Razgrad next month to guarantee first place.

Iwobi was subsequently replaced by Granit Xhaka after the goal – the substitution had been planned before PSG equalised – and was visibly crestfallen on the bench.

“It can happen,” Gunners boss, Arsene Wenger, told Standard Sport. “The frustrating thing, I think, was that Ospina was behind him. He’s certainly the most disappointed by what happened to him.”

Despite the Frenchman’s assertion, many Arsenal supporters took an exception to his display and immediately launched a monstrous assault on the Nigerian.
