The All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated a 138-member Federal Capital Territory (FCT) campaign council ahead of the February 21, 2026 area council elections, unveiling what it described as a roadmap to secure victory in all six councils.

The party inaugurated the council on Friday at a ceremony attended by governors, National Assembly members, party leaders and stakeholders from across the country.

Speaking at the inauguration, APC national chairman Prof Nentawe Yilwatda charged members of the council to work towards delivering victory for the party in the FCT elections.

He expressed confidence in the leadership of the council, chaired by Kwara State governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Yilwatda also announced the appointment of Governors Hope Uzodimma, Mai Mala Buni and Mohammed Umar Bago as co-chairmen of the council.

Reacting to reports that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi are campaigning for candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Yilwatda said their efforts are inconsequential.

“Our campaign is not selective. It is ongoing across communities, cutting across tribes and regions. Governors from every geopolitical zone are engaging directly with the people. We are mobilising more than any other party, and we are confident of victory,” he said.

In his remarks, AbdulRazaq thanked the party leadership for the appointment, describing it as both a responsibility and an opportunity to deepen democratic dividends for residents of the FCT.

“This campaign is not just about rallies; it is about results, winning through strategy, effective mobilisation, and genuine grassroots engagement,” he said.

AbdulRazaq said the council’s structure reflects Abuja’s diversity, with representatives and governors drawn from all six geopolitical zones.

He said the campaign would focus on community engagement, house-to-house mobilisation and effective deployment of resources.

“With dedication, discipline, and unity, we are confident of victory across all six area councils,” he said.

Other members of the council include Governors Uba Sani, Peter Mbah, Hyacinth Alia, Sheriff Oborevwori, Monday Okpebholo, Biodun Oyebanji, Francis Nwifuru and Umo Eno.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen were also named members of the council.

The FCT area council elections will determine chairmen, vice chairmen and councillors for Abaji, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje and Kwali.

A total of 570 candidates will contest 68 chairmanship and vice chairmanship positions, as well as 62 councillorship seats.
