Founder of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) Peace Anyiam-Osigwe is dead.

Ms. Anyiam-Osigwe died in a Lagos hospital on Monday after receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.

Anyiam-Osigwe, who is also the president of the Association of Movie Producers (AMP), had said in her last Instagram post that she was on a “coffee break”.

She announced in December that AMAA had begun receiving entries for the 2023 edition.

According to Anyiam-Osigwe, the decision to unveil the activities ahead of AMAA 2023 was deliberate and a move to involve every film practitioner in Africa and the diaspora.

Her family is expected to release an official statement on her death.
