Algeria captain optimistic of World Cup ticket ahead of Nigeria

Algeria skipper, Carl Medjani, is optimistic that his country will still qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup despite their appalling start to the campaign.

The Desert Foxes have only managed one point from their first two games and face an uphill task to book a ticket to Russia.

Their latest setback was a disappointing 3-1 loss to the Super Eagles on Saturday which leaves them rock-bottom of Group B and five points adrift of the Nigerians.

However, Medjani insists his team can still make it to the mundial if they win their remaining fixtures.

“We can still qualify for the World Cup,” declared the 31-year-old Leganes midfielder.

“We need to win our remaining four matches and hope the Super Eagles lose a game before their final match in Algeria.”

The North Africans will resume that quest in August 2017 with a frustrating away trip to Ndola to face Zambia.

This will be followed by the return fixture in four days time before facing Cameroon and Nigeria away and at home respectively.
