Ajayi wins Egptian title with Al Ahly

Super Eagles newbie, Junior Ajayi, has won the Egyptian Premier League title with Al Ahly.

The Cairo giants secured the crown on Monday night as Al Masry drew 0-0 with El Entag El Harby, winning it with six games left to go as they sit pretty on top of the table.

Hossam El-Badry’s men sit atop of the standings with 75 points, followed by Ismaily with 53 points, Zamalek with 51 points and Al Masry 49 points.

They defeated ENSPP 1-0 a day earlier at Petrosport Stadium thanks to Ayman Ashraf goal

Ahly is expected to receive their trophy, a 40th league win for them, after the international break when they face Tanta, a side battling relegation.

The Egyptians join the likes of Rangers, Linfield, Penarol, Olimpia and Olympiacos on the list of teams to have won their domestic league on 40 occasions.

Ajayi who is hoping to make Nigeria’s squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia has been one of the consistent performers for Al Ahly this season.
He has scored eight goals and provided nine assists in 24 games.
Overall, the former Shooting Stars striker has notched 16 goals in 45 appearances for Ahly since the switch from Tunisian club CS Sfaxien in 2016.
