Air Peace plane overshoots runway in Port Harcourt

A passenger airplane operated by Air Peace has overshot the runway of the Port Harcourt International Airport in Rivers State.

The plane overshot the runway on Saturday after experiencing difficulty in halting properly due to heavy rainfall.

A passenger who was aboard the plane said the aircraft came to a halt in the bush some 200 meters away from the runway.

General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Henrietta Yakubu, said that in spite of the rain, the undercarriage of the Boeing 737-500 aircraft did not sink into the soil.

Yakubu said that all passengers were disembarked successfully from the plane which took off from Abuja and that there was no casualty.

Chief Operating Officer of Air Peace, Oluwatoyin Olajide, promised that the carrier would cooperate with authorities investigating the incident.

“We apologise to our esteemed passengers for the inconvenience caused them and wish to assure them that we will continue to prioritise their safety in all our operations,” she said.
