An air traffic controller at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos Aniekan Effiong died in the early hours of Monday, a source at the airport has said.

Mr Effiong, said to be in his 40s, reportedly slumped at his duty post.

The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told Daily Trust that vehicular restrictions to the Total Radar Coverage of Nigeria (TRACON) site made it difficult for Effiong to be rushed to the hospital.

“Before they could get a vehicle and rush him to the hospital he passed on,” the source said, although there is no official word yet on the incident.

The deceased was an official of the Nigerian Airspace Management Authority (NAMA).

Another air traffic controller Francis Anwetin died last week following an accident.
