Ahmed Musa gets special honour on 100th cap as Eagles defeat Cape Verde

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa on Tuesday registered his 100th cap for Nigeria with a 2-1 victory over Cape Verde in a World Cup qualifying match.

The win puts Nigeria in firm position at the top of Group C ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen equalised for the Eagles in the 29th minute after Dylan dos Santos put the home team in front after 19 minutes.

A defensive error in the 75th minute saw Cape Verde concede an own goal which gave the Eagles all three points.

The Eagles, who were without seven UK-based players, gave Musa a special recognition for recording his 100th cap.

“I can’t keep calm as we keep winning. Thanks to my family, my team mates, fans and not forgetting the NFF. I want to specially mention it’s my 100th cap for the team as well,” Musa wrote in an Instagram post.

“It’s an absolute honour & priviledge to serve in this capacity. All of these wouldn’t have been possible without you guys as there is no ‘I’ in team. You guys rock. Thanks so much once again. Here’s to more wins.”

Only former goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama and ex-defender Joseph Yobo have more caps (101) for Nigeria.
