Ahmadu Bello’s driver dies at 97

Ali Kwarbai, the personal driver of former premier of the Northern Region Sir Ahmadu Bello, has died at the age of 97.

The Sarkin Mota died on Wednesday at his home in Unguwan Sarki, Kaduna North Local Government Area of the state.

At the 50th anniversary of Arewa House in Kaduna, Kwarbai was recognised by the Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar as the man who drove the first and only premier of northern Nigeria.

He is survived by wives, children and grandchildren.

Ahmadu Bello was killed in Nigeria’s first military coup on January 15, 1966.
