Kano State House of Assembly, on Thursday, passed an executive bill seeking to split the state into five emirates through the creation of four new emirates.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje presented the bill on Monday days after the Kano State High Court nullified the creation of Rano, Gaya, Karaya and Bichiin emirates on grounds that due process was not followed in the creation of the emirates.

Speaker Abdulazeez Garba-Gafasa presided over the plenary sessions as the lawmakers unanimously agreed on the creation of the new emirates.

House leader, Labaran Abdul-Madari, said the creation of the emirates was aimed at spreading development across the state, adding that it was in the interest of the public.

Mr Abdul-Madari added that the new law would provide for a state council of chiefs with its chairmanship rotated every two years among the now five emirs in the state.
