After Crowdfunding, Nigeria Amputee team crash out of World Cup

Nigeria’s Amputee national football team have been eliminated from the ongoing World Cup in Mexico.

The Special Eagles, who were assisted by Crowdfunding to make the biennial tournament, couldn’t survive the first round.

Succesive defeats to Brazil and Russia, which they conceded a whopping nine goals sealed their fate.

Such that a historic victory over El Salvador wasn’t enough.

The story of the Nigerian side caught the public attention due to a Crowdfunding campaign started in order to obtain the necessary funds to fly to Mexico.

Due to a lack of finances, the Special Eagles missed the last three World Cups.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick, some members of the Super Eagles squad, as well as the former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, made significant financial contributions to get the squad to Mexico.

A Swedish journalist, Stefan Lovgren, while commending the Nigerian team said “this is the stuff of dreams. We won a game at the World Cup.”

“The match was nervy for the crowd and those on the bench. The Nigerians came in strongly into the game, dominated the game especially in the first half. They were faster and stronger than their opponents.”
