Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has applauded the Bafana Bafana of South Africa for holding his team to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Nigeria clinched a spot at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after picking a share of the spoils in Johannesburg.

Rohr, who has so far qualified Nigeria for two major tournaments, revealed that Stuart Baxter’s men made things difficult for his team.

“We arrived early Friday without sleeping. The second half was tough we scored the first goal and our tactics were okay. They (South Africa) had to come out and it was difficult for them,” he said after the game.

“We started very well and got a goal. We tried to score the second goal because we played to win all the time, but we didn’t want to take any risk.

“South Africa are a very good team and in the second half, they made it very difficult for us after we started the game very well.

“They made it difficult for us n the second half when we tried to score another goal.”

Rohr also tipped the Rainbow nation to pick the needed point to the second ticket only if they reproduce their form against the Eagles when they face Libya in their decisive last Group E match.

“We played against a very good side in Libya in Sfax and I think if South Africa play the way they did against us in March with the impressive Percy Tau, they can win and qualify.”
