AFCON 2017: Siasia invites Victor Moses, Iheanacho, Ighalo, 39 others for Egypt

Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, has opted against inviting former internationals Vincent Enyeama and Emmanuel, for the African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Egypt.

The pair who quit the national team under Sunday Oliseh had foreclosed making an international return, and Siasia revealed on Wednesday that they can’t be forced to “rescind their decision and we have to respect that”.

Siasia on Thursday released a list of 42 players to prosecute the games against the seven-time African champions.

The Eagles play Group G rivals Egypt on 25 March in Kaduna and in Alexandria on 29 March – with the three-time African champions trailing their rivals by two points.

Making a return to the Eagles is West Ham winger, Victor Moses, who failed to feature all through Oliseh’s eight months in charge due to injury.

His last Super Eagles appearance was in the 2-0 loss to France at the 2014 World Cup.

The former Crystal Palace man is joined on the returnee list by Kasimpasa of Turkey defender, Kenneth Omeruo, as well as CSKA Moscow new boy, Aaron Samuel.

Apart from Moses, the quartet of John Obi Mikel, Odion Ighalo, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho is selected from the Barclays Premier League.

Siasia also handed call-ups to some of the local boys who he led to the U-23 championship title last year, including captain Azubuike Okechukwu, Usman Mohammed and Etebo Oghenekaro.

The 51-year-old, who will open the camp for locally based players this weekend in Abuja, expressed confidence in the invited players – assuring all six points in both legs against the Pharaohs.

“I have absolute faith in the players,” the former Nantes of France star told reporters on Thursday in Abuja.

“Nigeria is blessed with so many talented footballers across the world and I know that those we are inviting for this match will give everything for the six points in both matches.

“Personally, I will give everything that I have to offer for us to win both matches.”
