Actress Adunni Ade has firmly dismissed a viral quote attributed to her, which suggested that her beauty and the attention she received from admirers may have hindered her chances of getting married.
The controversy began when media outlet Instablog9ja shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) with a quote purportedly from the actress:
“I used to be the center of attention—admired, desired, and blessed with a beauty that opened doors. Yet, here I am… still unmarried. — Adunni Ade,” accompanied by her picture.
The quote, implying regret over not being married despite her good looks and popularity, quickly gained traction and triggered widespread online discussion.
However, Adunni Ade swiftly took to the platform on Monday to refute the statement and set the record straight. Quoting the post directly, she issued a strong warning and demanded that the false narrative be taken down within 24 hours.
“I kindly request that you take down this post within 24 hours to prevent further action involving my legal team. I do not appreciate the fact that you’re using my name to peddle false news & articles with no verifiable source just to generate engagement,” she wrote.
In a fiery post on her official Facebook page, the actress made it emphatically clear that she neither granted such an interview, nor did she make any such statements attributed to her by the controversial media platform.
“I was enjoying a peaceful weekend with my children when I received a call from my manager regarding a misleading article published by Instablog. I want to clarify that I did not participate in that interview and have no connection to the false claims made in that publication.”
Taking a direct jab at the platform, Adunni declared her intention to use Instablog as a cautionary example of how misinformation thrives in the digital space—particularly on Facebook, where she says many users “accept information at face value.”
“It has been suggested that individuals on Facebook are particularly difficult to persuade, as they tend to accept information at face value, meaning a lot believe everything they see and read,” she stated.
Undeterred by online drama, Adunni firmly reiterated her core priorities: her career and her children. She made it clear she had no time for manufactured controversies or chasing fame.
“I recognize that I may be the subject of criticism, hate and falsehoods for various reasons… but seeking attention or ‘clout’ has never been my intention,” she asserted.
Adunni Ade has never been married but was in a long-term relationship of eight years with Michael Boyd. The relationship produced two sons, D’Marion and Ayden. In past interviews, she revealed that they parted ways because he wasn’t ready for marriage.
“Well, I just had to make that decision though it took me a long time to realise or stop lying to myself that it was never going to work out even though I tried as much as I could. I just decided that what’s best for me is to walk away and still be here and be with my kids and still have the opportunity of being the best mother possible, so yeah, I had to make that decision. It was really tough, it was really painful; I think that hurt me the most out of anything that I have ever been through in my life, walking away was the hardest thing to do.”
After their separation, Adunni returned to Nigeria with her children and has since been raising them as a single mother. She has expressed that her children are her biggest source of inspiration and has remained focused on her career and motherhood.
