Adeboye shuns interview after meeting with Buhari

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye on Monday visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The duo met behind closed doors at the president’s office.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo who is also a pastor in the RCCG joined in the meeting.

Chief of Staff to the President Prof. Ibrahim Gambari also attended the meeting which began around 3pm and ended a few minutes after.

Adeboye declined speaking with reporters at the end of the meeting.

The Presidency also had not spoken on the meeting as of press time.

The meeting is believed to be connected to the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) which Buhari signed into law on August 7.

Religious leaders have kicked against the provisions of the amended law, one of which requires government supervision on religious organisations.

RCCG spokesman Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi had in a recent interview said Adeboye’s position on the law was not different from that of the recognised national Christian bodies.

“The stand of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the leadership of the church on issues like this is not always different from whatever the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria say.

“We always align ourselves with whatever the stand of the leadership of CAN and the PFN on issues like this is,” he had said.
