Actress and model Monalisa Stephen, will be laid to rest on Thursday, May 23, at Atan Cemetery in Lagos, according to family sources.
The burial announcement was made by media personality Seun Oloketuyi on Saturday, on Instagram.
He shared a photo of the late actress with the caption, “Monalisa Stephen will be buried Thursday at Atan cemetery according to family sources. The beautiful hardworking woman who died during the week after a brief illness.”
Monalisa Stephen was confirmed dead on Wednesday.
She was known for her vibrant social media presence and for being a strong advocate for self-love and body positivity.
In June 2022, Monalisa opened up about her long-standing battle with diabetes in an interview.
She revealed that she had been managing the condition since she was 10 years old. She also disclosed she had tinnitus and spoke about facing harsh online criticism and betrayals from people close to her.
That same year she posted a disturbing message on Instagram, hinting at suicidal thoughts.
“These moments before my departure, I feel more clarity than I have ever felt. Finally, I will be free. I will be free from the voices, from the pains, and from you,” she wrote.
Following the post, her management issued a statement clarifying that the note was written during one of her “down moments” and assured the public that she was receiving the help she needed.
Her sudden death has left many in shock, with tributes pouring in from fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry.
