Actor and content creator Bamidele Tope, better known as Okemesi, has died after falling into a coma.
His colleague Jeff Owolewa announced on Tuesday.
In a video shared online, Jeff said Okemesi was pronounced dead at 11:50 a.m. at a hospital.
He said, “With a heavy heart, I’m announcing to the world that Okemesi is dead. The doctor pronounced him dead at exactly 11:50 a.m. this morning, February 24, 2026. Okemesi is gone.”
Jeff added, “So, on behalf of the entire Bamidele family, I’m announcing to the world that Oluwatope Bamidele Saint Okemesi is dead. We have taken the body to the morgue. I will communicate the rest of the arrangements to you guys. We appreciate every one of you who turned up for him.”
Okemesi’s health had worsened after complications linked to medication he was given during a recent clinic visit. Jeff earlier said he fell into a coma and was placed on oxygen support as his condition deteriorated.
In the days before his final hospitalisation, Jeff said the actor had been weak, sleeping most of the weekend and eating very little. He was taken to several hospitals as attempts were made to help him before the final diagnosis.
Weeks before this health crisis, Okemesi had appealed for help, saying he was struggling with sickness and had no stable place to stay. Supporters responded, helping him secure an apartment and some medical assistance.
Okemesi was known for his comedy skits and roles in both online content and Yoruba-language films.
