Actor and comedian Frank Idowu, better known as Frank Donga, has taken up a job with the Government of Saskatchewan, Canada.
According to the official Saskatchewan Government Directory, the entertainer serves as a Multimedia Communications Specialist in the Communications Branch of the province’s Ministry of Agriculture.
Before relocating abroad, Frank Donga rose to fame through his satirical web series The Interview on Ndani TV, where he played a frustrated job seeker. The role earned him a nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy at the 2015 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The Agricultural Science graduate from Olabisi Onabanjo University also featured in hit movies such as The Wedding Party, The Wedding Party 2 and Banana Island Ghost.
Reactions have trailed his new job, with many Nigerians applauding his move from entertainment to public service in Canada.
Although the actor has not said if he has quit comedy, he once reflected on migration and personal growth, writing on social media: “The truth is leaving Nigeria does not guarantee you’ll get rich. Likewise, deciding to stay does NOT mean you’re more patriotic. Sometimes, all people want is where they can maximise their potentials and live in peace. Whatever you decide to do, I pray your dreams come true.”
Frank Donga is known for using humour to highlight unemployment and everyday struggles in Nigeria. His latest move adds him to the list of Nigerian entertainers who have found new opportunities abroad while maintaining ties to their creative roots.
