Abuja woman Ameerah Safiyan arraigned over false kidnap tweets

Ahmeerah Safiyanu charged with false claim

The police on Wednesday arraigned Ameerah Safiyan at the Zone 2 Magistrate Court for allegedly raising false alarm and misleading public servants.

According to the police, she planned her own kidnap and was found in a hospital in Lagos.

The prosecution says that after clinical examination it was discovered she may have suffered mental breakdown.

Safiyan appeared in court in blue dress, hijab and black facemask.

Police in the FCT on June 17 announced Safiyan, who tweeted that she and 17 others were abducted by armed men in police uniform on June 14 in Abuja, had been found.

The lady sent an SOS message via her Twitter handle, @ameerah_sufyan. Her message immediately went viral and got the attention of the police.

FCT Police Command’s spokesperson Oduniyi Omotayo debunked the kidnap claim in a statement: “The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command wishes to categorically debunk the viral news of the alleged kidnapping of one Safiyanu Amira and seventeen (17) others who were reportedly abducted at gunpoint by Armed men in Police uniform on Tuesday 14th June 2022 at about 1:00 pm and to state that Safiyanu Amira is currently safe in Police custody.

“While she is currently in the hospital receiving medical attention as demanded by global best practices, the investigation continues and findings will be communicated subsequently.”
