Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has denied granting an interview on Lagos FM about the planned attack on President Muhammadu Buhari by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Japan.

President Buhari is in Japan for the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) holding in the City of Yokohama from August 28 to 30.

IPOB fugitive leader, Nnamdi Kanu, had last week called for the group’s members in Japan to ‘arrest’ Buhari on sight.

According to a report which NIDCOM has denied, Mrs Dabiri-Erewa was quoted saying she would “take it upon” herself to see that the IPOB members are dealt with if Buhari is attacked in Japan.

“The call to attack President Buhari in Japan by Nnamdi Kanu is not just careless but also disrespectful to the core. Who does he think he is? If his group tries anything in Japan, I personally will take it upon myself to see that they are dealt with this time around.

“We are yet to forgive them on the assault on Senator Ike Ekweremmadu (in Germany) and they are planning to disrupt the President’s visit in Japan,” she was quoted saying.

NIDCOM, however, in a tweet on Monday, said the former House of Representatives’ member did not grant any interview on the topic.

“This is false news. The Chairman/CEO of NIDCOM, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa never granted any interview today, 26th of August 2019. Hon Abike Dabiri is currently in between Airports connecting flights. Please disregard this fake news,” the tweet read.

Buhari is being accompanied on the trip to Japan by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, and Babagana Zulum of Borno State, all first-time governors.
