Death toll hits 700 in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi Cyclone Idai attack

Cyclone Idai attack hits 700

Almost two weeks since Cyclone Idai hit southeast Africa, no less than 700 people have lost their lives while hundreds of thousands have been displaced.

Many are in dire need of food, water and shelter. A hotel manager in Zimbabwe has taken it as a responsibility to give shelter to hundreds.

As of Tuesday, at least 700 people had been reported killed by the storm, the flooding that followed and heavy rains before it hit.

Buildings have been submerged, some are seen floating as flood waters begin to recede in the aftermath of Cyclone Idai.

Cyclone Idai hit Mozambique on March 14 bursting banks of two major rivers and sending huge body of water into villages.

It hit eastern Zimbabwe on March 16 where it flattened homes and flooded communities in the Chimanimani and Chipinge districts.

In Malawi, the rains continued to pour in after the storm hit major rivers in districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje.
