American pop star, Demi Lovato, has stated that she is thankful to be alive after she was hospitalized for drug overdose nearly two weeks ago.
In an open letter to Instagram on Sunday, the 25-year-old expressed her gratitude to her followers and fans. She also noted that she has long been open about her struggles with addiction.
“I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well,” she said, adding that she is “forever grateful” for the support of her fans and crediting the staff of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles with saving her life.
She indicated in a new song released last month she had relapsed after six years of sobriety.
On the song ‘Sober,’ she sings the lyrics: “Momma, I’m so sorry I’m not sober anymore/And daddy please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor.”
The singer, whose hits include ‘Sorry Not Sorry,’ was rushed from her home to a hospital by emergency responders.
Her overdose prompted a flurry of statements of solidarity from fellow American stars who praised her personality.
