Basketmouth loses mother four weeks after robbery

Bright Okpocha, the comedian popularly known as Basketmouth, has announced the loss of his mother.

The Abia-born entertainer made the announcement on social media on Tuesday, writing “Last night my angel left me, my first love stopped breathing and it’s the deepest pain I’ve ever felt.”

I love you for every sacrifice you made to make me the man I am today, I’ve loved you through the tough times. I’ve loved you through happier days and all I can say at this point is that I will love you forever. I will miss you mummy.

Basketmouth’s brother and co-member of the rap group known as Da Oddz, Godwin Okpocha, uploaded the image of a candle and said “I’m in a dark place…I can’t help it”.

Friends and fans are already consoling the bereaved family.

Pop musician, Banky W, sent his condolence message using the hashtag #PrayForBasketMouth.

#PrayForBasketMouth I don’t have all the details, but I heard @basketmouth lost his Mum last night. I also heard that fairly recently, he went through and survived an Armed Robbery attack in his home. Sometimes, when it rains, it REALLY pours. I can only imagine what he’s feeling like currently.. no matter how strong a person is.. life can test you with the harshest of circumstances. I just want everyone to please reach out to him and offer a word of encouragement and support to our brother… it can be a call, text, or social media comment. He’s someone that has brought a lot of joy into millions of our lives, and it’s our turn to do that for him. But most importantly, please also take a moment to #PrayForBasketmouth. Fellow comedian, Bovi, who broke the news of Basketmouth’s robbery at gunpoint in his Lekki home on Wednesday, September 7, wrote: “Another mother has slept. Heaven just gained another Saint.”
