BNXN dedicates Headies Next Rated award to mum who died of breast cancer

Singer Daniel Benson, popularly known as BNXN, has dedicated his award for the Next Rated Artiste at the 15th edition of the Headies to his mum who died of breast cancer.

The 25-year-old was announced the winner of the category at the 2022 Headies Award ceremony held on Sunday in Atlanta, United States of America.

In his acceptance speech, he said: “I want to thank God he is the reason I’m here, he is the reason I’ve been able to come this far. I dedicate this to my mum, she died of breast cancer this is for you mummy, this is for my family, this is for my management.”

Buju also dedicated the award to fellow nominees Ayra Starr and Ruger.

Speaking after the ceremony, the singer formerly known as Buju thanked his fans for their support, adding that he is also dedicating the award to Burna Boy who emerged as Best African Artiste and Best Male Artiste.

“I don’t what to say menn, I could say all these on stage but thank you guys so much for supporting me, Thank you so so much for supporting me, I love you guys so much. There is no me without you I promise. I’m also going to dedicate this to Burna Boy menn I just forgot on stage. Thank you guys so much,” he said.

For winning the category, BNXN goes home with the 2022 Bentley Bentayga.

He was nominated alongside Ayra Starr, Zinoleesky, Lojay and Ruger.

Others who won awards at the ceremony include Wizkid who bagged awards for Best Afrobeats Album for Made in Lagos, Best Collaboration for his ‘Essence’ which featured Tem and Best R n B song.

D’Banj won the special recognition award for his talent, while Olamide won Best Rap Album. Adekunle Gold bagged the award for Songwriter of the Year while Davido went home with Digital Artiste and Humanitarian Awards.

Arya Starr bagged the Viewers’ Choice Award for Bloody Samaritan.
