Coronavirus: Abia displaces Lagos in top position as Nigeria sees 260 new cases

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Sunday announced 260 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.

The new cases bring the total number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in Nigeria to 12486.

According to the agency on Twitter, Abia State recorded more cases in a single day than Lagos for the first time.

Abia recorded 67, FCT-40, Lagos-38, Ogun-19, Gombe-16, Edo-14, Imo-9 while Kwara, Katsina, Nasarawa and Borno recorded eight each.

Also, Kaduna recorded six, Bauchi-5, Ekiti-4 while Niger, Ondo, Plateau, Kano and Sokoto recorded two each.

The NCDC also said 12 new coronavirus-related deaths were recorded, bringing total number of deaths to 354.

The number of discharged COVID-19 patients nationwide also increased to 3959.

The federal agency added: “Yesterday, we erroneously reported 7 new cases in Jigawa. Following further review, we can confirm that these were repeat tests for previously confirmed cases

“We apologise for this error and remain committed to ensuring transparent and accurate reporting of test results.”
