President Muhammadu Buhari has joined the staff and students of Bethlehem Girls College in mourning the school’s deceased principal, Rev. Sis. Henrietta Alokha.

Sister Alokha was buried on Thursday at the Sacred Heart Novitiate Chapel, Atani-Uromi, Edo State.

She died rescuing her pupils during a gas explosion in Abule-Ado area of Lagos on March 15.

In a statement on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari said the late principal deserves commendation.

“The President believes Sis. Alokha’s choice to lay down her life for the students she loved deserves commendation while taking into consideration her contributions to the educational development of the country through piety, diligence and charity,” the statement read.

“President Buhari salutes her courage and heroism, assuring that posterity will remember her sacrificial spirit, rescuing children kept under her care, and putting her own life on the line.

“The President prays that the almighty God will accept her soul, comfort her family, and all those she lived and died for.”

Buhari also condoled all who lost their loved ones and property in the pipeline explosion, praying that God would strengthen them in the trying period.
