The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed five new cases of the coronavirus in the country.

In a tweet late Wednesday, the centre said that of the five persons, two each are in Abuja and Lagos while the remaining one is in Rivers.

“Five new cases of #COVID19 have been confirmed in Nigeria: 2 in FCT, 2 in Lagos & 1 in Rivers,” it said.

“3 are returning travellers into Nigeria & 2 are close contacts of a confirmed case.

“As at 11:25 pm 25th March, there are 51 confirmed cases, 2 discharged, 1 death.”

This is the first case of the virus in Rivers. Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers had on Wednesday ordered the closure of the state’s borders to prevent the virus from being imported into the state.

Lagos now has 32 confirmed cases of the virus while Abuja has 10.
