Police in Kano have banned all forms of rally, demonstration, procession or assembly in the state until further notice.

Kano police spokesman, Abdullahi Haruna, in a statement on Saturday said the command had withdrawn permission given to members of the public, civil society organisations, political parties, non-governmental organisations, and other groups.

The order is said to be connected with the tension building up following a query issued by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, over alleged misappropriation of N3.4 billion by the Emirate Council under Sanusi’s leadership.

Mr Haruna said the ban was necessary to prevent any threat, breach of peace or breakdown of law and order in the state.

He warned that any person or group found engaging in unlawful assembly would be arrested and prosecuted.

“The measure is to ensure lasting peace and unity in the state,” Haruna said.
