Nigeria records 220 new coronavirus cases, total now 2,388

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 220 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the country’s total infections to 2,388.

According to a tweet by the agency on Saturday, of the new infections, 62 are in Lagos, 52 from the FCT, 31 in Kaduna and 13 from Sokoto.

The NCDC also recorded 17 deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 85.

It also said 10 new cases were recorded in Kebbi, nine in Yobe, six in Borno, five each in Edo and Bauchi, four each in Gombe, Enugu and Oyo, three in Zamfara , two each in Ebonyi, Kwara, Kano and Plateau.

According to NCDC, as of May 2, Nigeria has 1,918 active cases of COVID-19 and 386 treated and discharged in the country.

The NCDC added: “Two cases previously reported in Katsina were repeat tests. Therefore, as of 11:55pm May 2 2020, Katsina State has a total of 38 confirmed cases.”

The agency disclosed it has improved on its COVID-19 microsite for Nigerians to easily access by logging on for the latest guides.

The guides included advisory guide for the use of face masks; guidelines for healthcare workers, ahead of the gradual easing of lockdown.
