From time to time, women have to deal with vaginal itching. This is caused by a number of reasons which includes poor hygiene, yeast infection, allergy to condoms and menopause, among others.

Common symptoms of the infection are redness, itching, burning sensation and irritation of the vaginal area.

Here are some home remedies to choose from to stop the itching.

  1. Garlic: It is a natural antioxidant with anti-fungal properties. Eat raw or cooked garlic daily to get rid of the infection. Another option is to insert a piece of garlic in the vagina for an hour or two, daily or few times a week, till the problem is over
  2. Citrus fruits: Fruits such as lemon, grape, oranges, lime and other helps to remove harmful toxins. They also fight against Urinary Tract Infection.
  3. Salt water bath: Salt can control the growth of the bacteria causing the infection and reduce the itching. A glass of water that contains a tablespoon of salt can be used to wash the vulva whenever the itch is felt. It gives instant relief. However, if there is a skin tear or open sore, this method is not advisable.
  4. Apple cider vinegar: Also known as ACV does not just fight off toxins and bacteria; it also restores the acidic quality of the vaginal flora because of its antiseptic properties. Simply soaking in or taking a bath with ACV is one of the simple ways to get rid of the offensive odor.

Other methods include: drinking plenty water throughout the day, staying away from caffeine and sugar drinks, practicing safe sex and of course, maintaining proper personal hygiene.

If these home remedies do not improve the condition, then a visit to the doctor is inevitable and necessary.
