Three pilgrims from Sokoto State lost their lives during this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia, Director-General of the Pilgrims’ Welfare Agency, Ibrahim Umar, has said.

Mr. Umar told the News Agency of Nigeria in Sokoto on Friday that the victims died in Mecca after successfully completing the 2016 pilgrimage.

He said two of the deceased were female pilgrims from Goronyo and Bodinga Local Government Areas while the male victim was from Sokoto North Local Government Area.

“The deceased pilgrims have been buried according to Islamic rites in Mecca and their families were duly informed about their demise,” Mr. Umar said.

He added that another male pilgrim from the state, who was hospitalised in Mecca, would be airlifted back home after his recovery from the illness.

The director-general said the last batch of 532 pilgrims arrived on Friday, bringing to 4746 the total number of pilgrims from the state successfully transported back home.
