29-year-old student dies by suicide in Kebbi

A 29-year-old student of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin-Kebbi, Kebbi State, has died by suicide.

Solomon Benedict, a resident of Badariya area of the state, was said to have taken his life over financial challenges.

The undergraduate was alleged to have consumed insecticide mixed with yoghurt.

It was gathered that Benedict kept holding on to his stomach after drinking the substance.

He was said to have died while being taken to the hospital.

A friend of the deceased who spoke in confidence said that Benedict had continuously threatened to take his life if his financial situation did not improve.

“I was shocked when a friend called me from Sokoto that Solomon had killed himself,” she said.

Kebbi police spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident on Tuesday.

“Yes, we are aware of the incident,” Mr Abubakar said, “the boy was 29 years old. He committed suicide at Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi.”
