Atlanta-based rapper, 21 Savage, has been arrested by officials of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

They have said that the 26-year-old is not an American citizen and has overstayed his visa in the country.

ICE officials revealed that the musician is a British national who entered the US legally as a teenager in 2005 but failed to leave under the terms of a non-immigrant visa.

The Bank Account singer born, Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, has been placed in removal proceedings.

ICE southern regional spokesman, Bryan Cox, confirmed the arrest to Atlanta TV station, WSB TV, “Mr Abraham-Joseph was taken into Ice custody as he is unlawfully present in the US and also a convicted felon,” he said.

Dina LaPolt, an attorney representing 21 Savage, told TMZ, that lawyers were “working diligently to get Mr Abraham-Joseph out of detention while we work with authorities to clear up any misunderstanding.”

21 Savage has always been assumed to be Atlanta-born but a search for his birthplace remains inconclusive as details are not readily available.

He is nominated for two awards at the 2019 Grammys, including record of the year for Rockstar, with artist, Post Malone.
