2 men face trial over alleged theft of 6 chickens

Two men, Adegoke Atanda and Adegbola Obey, on Monday, appeared before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court charged with stealing six domestic fowls.

Atanda, 65, and Obey, 50, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

At the arraignment of the accused, Police Prosecutor Jafaru Musulimu told the court that the duo committed the offences on Feb.10 at 10.00 p.m. at Olu Alabi Farm in Oke-Oniti area of Osogbo, the Osun capital.

Insp. Musilimu said the accused conspired and carted away six chickens belonging to Olu Alabi Farm Ltd at Oke-Oniti, Osogbo.

The offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.

Both pleaded not guilty and their lawyer, Mr Najite Okobie, urged the court to grant them bail on liberal terms.

Ruling on the bail application of the accused, Magistrate Fatima Sodamade admitted them to bails in the sum of N100, 000 and one surety each in the like sum.

She said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and show evidence of tax payments.

The case was adjourned until March 1 for hearing.
