15-year-old girl rescued after 10 years solitary confinement in Kano

Police in Kano have rescued Aisha Jibrin, 15, who was locked up in a room by her parents in Darerawa Quarters, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.

It was gathered that Jibrin was confined for 10 years without proper feeding and healthcare.

Rescuers found her looking emaciated and weak, with difficulty in standing and walking.

Police said Jibrin was rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano where she was admitted for treatment.

Police spokesman Abdullahi Haruna on Tuesday said the victim’s mother, Rabi Mohd, 35, has been arrested.

He added that the police were trialing her father Mohammed Jibrin who is at large.

“Information received by the police revealed that one Aisha Jibrin had been in solitary confinement for 10 years.

“Kano State Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, raised and instructed a team of medical officers and detectives to proceed to the area.

“The team rescued the victim and arrested one of the culprits who is the victim’s mother,” Mr Haruna said.
